Research Activities at PRF

The Progress Research Foundation (PRF) conducts multi-disciplinary research across a wide range of thematic areas, focusing on pressing issues relevant to the Global South. PRF’s research activities are characterized by their rigorous methodology, policy relevance, and commitment to fostering sustainable and inclusive development.

Key research focus areas include:

  • Poverty, Inequality, and Human Development: Addressing vulnerabilities of marginalized groups and promoting inclusive growth.
  • Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience: Exploring climate change impacts, adaptation strategies, and sustainable practices, with a focus on urbanization in the Global South.
  • Migration and Refugee Governance: Studying refugee dynamics in Africa and South Asia.
  • Labour and Employment: Analyzing contemporary labour regulations and policies.
  • Regional and Local Development: Examining issues specific to India, including tribal communities, education systems, and tourism development.
  • Natural Resource Management: Investigating fisheries and blue economy development, as well as human-wildlife conflict in forestry.
  • South-South Cooperation: Facilitating knowledge exchange and collaborative research among Global South nations.

PRF is initiating specific studies on refugee governance, tribal communities in India, climate change and urbanization (with emphasis on Latin America and India), and fisheries and blue economy development. The foundation is also preparing research proposals on human-wildlife conflict, tourism development, and education system evaluation.

To enhance its research impact, PRF organizes international symposia, annual thematic conferences, and public lectures featuring eminent global academics. The foundation is actively expanding its network by selecting research fellows from various regions in the Global South, including India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Japan, Africa, and Latin America.

PRF’s research activities are supported by innovative initiatives such as spatial modelling for evidence-based policymaking, applied machine learning in social sciences, and the development of a subscription-based data service for researchers, policymakers, and business analysts.

Through these diverse research activities, PRF aims to generate frontier knowledge and provide evidence-based insights to inform effective public policies and drive sustainable development in the Global South.
